Vancouver Whitecaps News Release

VANCOUVER, BC – The Vancouver Whitecaps FC, in conjunction with the United Soccer Leagues (USL), released their 2005 Men's regular season schedules today. The Whitecaps will kick-off their 2005 campaign on Sunday, April 24 against the Toronto Lynx at Swangard Stadium.

The Whitecaps 2005 schedule will feature 28 regular season games: 14 away, 13 at Swangard Stadium and one in Kelowna. The Whitecaps, who are part of the 12-team USL First Division, formerly known as the A-League, will play a home and away game against each team; they will also play an additional home and away versus traditional rivals: Seattle, Portland and Minnesota. The new format was created during the off-season due to a new league alignment which saw the two conferences merge into one. The new single table gives fans the chance to see all the teams while maintaining old rivalries.

The Kelowna game, scheduled for Saturday, July 9 against the Portland Timbers, will take place at the Apple Bowl. The game is part of a weekend long event that gives British Columbia's professional soccer team the opportunity to reach out to other communities in the province.

In addition to the Kelowna game, all Whitecaps home games will be played on the weekend. Swangard will host seven games on Sunday, three on Saturday and three on Friday.

The Whitecaps will also be featured twice on the USL's 16-week Fox Soccer World, formally Fox Sports World, broadcast schedule for the 2005 season. The USL First Division 20-show broadcast package incorporates 16 straight weeks of USL action from June 17 to October 1.

The Whitecaps first game on Fox Soccer World will be on Friday, July 29, as the Seattle Sounders travel to Vancouver for an 8:00 p.m. (PST) kick-off. The other broadcast has the Whitecaps visiting the Toronto Lynx on Friday, September 2, for a 5:00 p.m. (PST) match.

Whitecaps season tickets are now on sale for less than $6 per game. For more information please call 604.669.WAVE (9283) or visit us on the web at whitecapsfc.com.
