Rage's Roster Grows to 14
August 22, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage have re-signed fourth-year defenseman Nick Harloff and added rookie forward Nathan O'Nabigon to their official roster. The Rage now have 14 players under contract for the upcoming 2008-09 Central Hockey League season.
Harloff played 58 games last season for Rocky Mountain, recording 16 points (2g-14a) and 58 penalty minutes. He is one of four returning defensemen from a year ago that helped the Rage achieve a 37-point improvement in the standings from their inaugural season.
"Nick had a solid year for us last season," said Rocky Mountain Head Coach and General Manager Tracy Egeland. "He has all the tools to be a top four d-man at this level, and I'm excited to see what he can do with a second year of playing our systems."
While O'Nabigon has never played a shift of professional hockey, he is 25 years old with plenty of big-game experience at the major junior and Canadian university levels. The 6-foot-2, 215 lb. left winger won a Memorial Cup with the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers in 2002-03 when he was teammates with Mike Richards and Derek Roy, now of the Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres, respectively.
Rather than turn pro following his junior career, O'Nabigon instead decided to attend the University of New Brunswick where he helped the Varsity Reds win the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Championship in 2006-07. UNB then steamrolled its way to a 26-1-1 regular season mark last year before falling in the CIS Final, thwarting its bid for back-to-back national titles.
"Nathan's not going to be your stereotypical rookie," commented Egeland. "He's played a lot of hockey in pressure-filled situations and wasn't just along for the ride...he put up good numbers. He has good size and skill, and he should really help our club."
