Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Loveland, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage fell to the Colorado Eagles, 4-2, at the Budweiser Events Center as the defending President's Cup Champions completed a pre-season sweep over their Front Range rivals. Last night Colorado defeated Rocky Mountain, 5-2, at Broomfield Event Center in the first of the two-game series.

The Rage now turn their attention to the regular season, which begins on the road against the Odessa Jackalopes and Amarillo Gorillas on Oct. 19 and 20, respectively. The club then returns to Broomfield for its home opener at Broomfield Event Center against the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, Oct. 26, at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the clash with the Oilers are now on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets and Broomfield Event Center's box office.

Except for an empty-net goal with six seconds remaining in regulation that sealed the Eagles' victory, all of the scoring this evening occurred during the second period. The Rage's Trevor Weisgerber began the combined five-goal middle frame by scoring on a five-on-three power play just 45 seconds into the period. The Eagles' Riley Nelson and Ed McGrane answered at 8:00 and 10:10, respectively, to pull their club in front, 2-1. Rocky Mountain's Scott Wray re-tied the game with another power play marker off a rebound at 13:09, but McGrane scored his second of the contest and the eventual game-winner on a five-on-three at 16:56 to give Colorado a 3-2 edge through 40 minutes.

The Rage had a golden opportunity to notch the equalizer late in the third when they were awarded their second five-on-three of the game for a full two minutes with 2:29 remaining. But the defending champs' penalty killers held Rocky Mountain at bay, and Scott Polaski added the empty-netter for the final margin.

2007 Training Camp Notes: The Rage released forward Justin Depretis prior to tonight's game against the Eagles, leaving 23 players on the team's pre-season roster. The remaining players continue to compete for the 19 spots on the club's regular season roster, which must be submitted to the Central Hockey League by head coach Tracy Egeland on Oct. 17.
