Rage Players Receive Christmas Present as Reward for 2005 Season Accomplishments
The RiverCity Rage of the National Indoor Football League announced on Monday that incentive checks for it's players had arrived this week to help out at holiday time. Rage players from the 2005 roster who were active for two or more games and in good standing with the team will be getting a special surprise when team owners Tye Elliott and Scott Wilson reward them with $200 checks for attaining one of the two playing incentives set forth for the past season.
A great showing on defense makes for a super stocking stuffer as the Rage D' went over the top in 2005, recording 39 sacks to take league honors in that category. The goal set in the beginning of the year was 36.
On offense, the team fell just 14 points short of the pre-season incentive goal of 845 points, chalking up 831 on the year, first in the Atlantic Conference of the NIFL.
The good news for Coach Wyatt's squad was the decision earlier by owners that if either or both hit their incentive mark, the money would be divided among all the Rage players and coaches.
Rage defensive end Bruce Blue will soon head for training camp with the New York Dragons of the Arena Football League, but Rage players should make it a point to shake his hand before he leaves town. The Western New Mexico University product led all Rage players with 11 sacks on the season, the only player to record in double digits.
But Wyatt said it was satisfying to know that every player receiving a bonus check had truly earned it with his play on the field . "These are top quality people, and players who are fun to coach. We never lacked for effort on the field. I think it also speaks well of our owners to have the vision and the belief in our players, coaches and our system to have purchased the incentive insurance that allows everyone to enjoy this bonus at Christmas time. "
The NIFL allows for a fixed amount of dollars that a team may use for incentive money for it's players. At the discretion of the individual teams, the money can be given to any one player, multiple players, or the entire team. The Rage opted to purchase the incentive insurance that would pay larger dividends for the entire team, provided the goals were achieved.
Rage Majority Owner Scott Wilson was pleased for all concerned. "It's great to be able to reward the quality play of our guys with something tangible and timely. When Tye and I came on board at this time last year, we looked for ways in which management and Rage ownership could work together to create better opportunities for our players and coaches. It was fun to be able to make this happen, but it's presented as a gift only because it's the holiday season. The truth is, these guys earned it."
Rage players attending the St. Louis Rams promotion this Sunday will be receiving their checks at that time. All others will get a yuletide boost in the mail sometime next week.
The RiverCity Rage open the 2006 NIFL season on the road the weekend of March 17th. The team's first home game is scheduled for Sunday, March 26th , with a 3 PM Kick-Off at Savvis Center. All other 2006 home games at Savvis will be played on Friday night, with a 7 PM start time.
