RiverCity Rage News Release

The Rage franchise opened the 2006 holiday season by spending time with a group of youth.

On Saturday, November 19, Jarrod Rogol, Director of Media and Public Relations, Charles Edmunds, Line Coach, and Barry Bruggeman and Fred Layne, Offensive Linemen, spent the afternoon with approximately 60 kids from Discovering Options.

The clinic was held at Edward Jones Dome in downtown Saint Louis, MO, and included positional drills, agility drills, and what seemed to be the most fun activity: a game of football with Bruggeman and Layne both playing Quarterback.

The four Rage members shared the following comments at the conclusion of the event:

"I've always held the belief that in order to have a secure future, we must have a secure present which starts by providing youth with someone to look up to," said Rogol.

"There were some talented kids out here today. They are the future of our communities and the sport of football and it's great to see them participating in such a positive event," said Edmunds.

"To me, it is really important to give back to the community; you never know the difference that you can make in someone's life," said Bruggeman.

"I've been blessed with the opportunity to play professional football. Today was about the kids. Without them, we wouldn't be here. We had a great time and more importantly, the kids enjoyed it," said Layne.

Discovering Options is a program designed to mentor "at risk" students. Many students in St. Louis Public Schools live with multiple risk factors that are predictors for drug abuse: poverty, family conflict, a lack of commitment to school, behavior problems, and neighborhoods where drugs are easily accessible. These all make a child more likely to use and abuse drugs and alcohol. Discovering Options provides at-risk students with supportive and life-enriching programs to prevent drug abuse.
