Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage have agreed to terms with All-Star defenseman Tyler Butler, who becomes the first defenseman and fourth player overall to officially sign with the club for the upcoming Central Hockey League season.
Following a collegiate career at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, Butler (6-foot-2, 205 lbs.) joined current Rage teammate Scott Wray and helped lead the CHL's Amarillo Gorillas to the Southern Conference Finals during his first two years as a pro in 2003-04 and 2004-05. His level of play during his sophomore campaign garnered league-wide attention, and he was named a CHL All-Star.
Butler then suited up for the United Hockey League's Missouri River Otters in 2005-06 and earned a promotion to the American Hockey League, where he played two games with the Peoria Rivermen. Last season, the Kanata, Ontario, native went overseas to play in Germany and posted career highs across the board by averaging nearly a point per game (14g-25a-39pts) for the Hannover Indians.
"Tyler will provide us with an offense spark from the blue line," said Rage head coach Tracy Egeland. "His shot will make him real a weapon on the power play, and he's a former All-Star with a lot of experience in winning situations. He also knows what it takes to get to the next level, which will help our young guys continue to develop and get better."
Butler, Wray (LW), Brent Cullaton (RW), and Chip Dunleavy (RW) comprise the current list of players signed to play for Rocky Mountain next season.
Season tickets for the Rage's 2007-08 CHL campaign are on sale now and start as low as $495 for all 32 regular season games AND the 2008 CHL All-Star Game at Broomfield Event Center.
