Racing Goalkeeper Lund Named to NWSL Team of the Month
October 14, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Racing Louisville FC News Release
The NWSL on Thursday named Racing Louisville FC's Katie Lund its Goalkeeper of the Month for September/October after she set a new league record for saves in a single season.
Lund, who tallied 112 saves on the year, also helped Racing Louisville finish its campaign on a high note. The club won three of its last four games, registering a pair of shutouts from mid-September into early October.
Lund's record season saw her surpass the 2018 mark of 108 saves set by Canadian national team goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan and United States international Aubrey Kingsbury.
"I am grateful to be named to the Team of the Month," Lund said. "I have grown a lot as player this year and I am looking forward to continue improving during the offseason and into next year"
The Plano, Texas, native Lund worked herself into the starting job toward the end of the 2021 regular season, when she logged 16 saves through four starts. Lund then played every minute of the 2022 regular season, numbering six clean sheets.
According to American Soccer Analysis, she ranks first in shot stopping and goals added as well as second in passing among NWSL goalkeepers who played at least 300 minutes.
The NWSL Team of the Month is selected throughout the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
