Racing Announces List of Protected Players Before NWSL Expansion Draft
December 13, 2023 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Racing Louisville FC News Release
Racing Louisville FC released its protected players list Wednesday ahead of the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft, presented by Ally.
The fifth Expansion Draft in NWSL history starts at 7 p.m. ET and will air live on CBS Sports Network. It will consist of 12 rounds featuring selections by league newcomer Bay FC and Utah Royals FC, which is returning to play after a hiatus dating back to 2020.
Racing previously agreed to a trade with Bay FC that prevents the California club from picking any Louisville players. However, significant efforts to come to an agreement for Expansion Draft protection from Utah did not come to fruition. As a result, Racing is allowed to protect nine players from selection by Utah Royals FC in the draft.
Utah may select up to two of the remaining unprotected players on Racing's roster, while Louisville may protect an additional player after Utah picks the first player off Racing's roster.
Racing Louisville FC protected list:
Ary Borges
Kirsten Davis
Savannah DeMelo
Abby Erceg
Jaelin Howell
Katie Lund
Lauren Milliet
Carson Pickett
Elli Pikkujämsä
