
Racers top Thunder in game two of opening series

AKRON, Ohio â June 3, 2004 â A two-run homerun in the fourth inning led the Racers to a 2-1 win over the Texas Thunder on Wednesday night in Houston.
Catcher, Dana Degen provided all the offense necessary with her two-run homerun in the top of the fourth inning to defeat the Texas Thunder on their home field. Defensively, third baseman, Tracee McCoy led both teams with four assists on the night.
Brandee McArthur, who pitched a complete game, picked up the Racers' first win of the season after giving up six hits and striking out five batters. Thunder pitcher, Marissa Young, gave up five hits and had three strikeouts to take the loss.
Trena Peel, the Racers right fielder, went two for two on the evening. Thunder's Selena Collins and Erin Evans had two hits apiece.
The Racers will take on the Thunder in the final game of the three game series Thursday evening, June 3 at 7:35 pm Central Time at the University of Houston softball field.
The Akron Racers opening weekend against the New England Riptide begins Saturday, June 5 at 7:05 p.m. at Firestone Stadium. The series will continue on Sunday, June 6 at 1:05 p.m. and Monday, June 7 at 7:05 p.m. For ticket information, call 330.376.8188 or visit www.akronracers.org.
