
Racers Sign Draftee Hannah Day to Contract

AKRON, OH - The Akron Racers added First-Team All-Sun Belt honoree, Hannah Day to their 2016 roster. Day is the second member of 2016 NPF Draft class to sign with the Racers. Day, a catcher/outfielder from Troy University, was selected with the 30th overall pick in the 2016 NPF Senior Draft.
"Hannah's versatility made her a perfect choice for our team," explained GM Joey Arrietta. "She will learn from one of the best, Griffin Joiner, to become the best backstop duo in the league."
Day not only led the Trojans with 12 doubles and a .691 slugging percentage, but her 64 RBI and 123 total bases, also led the entire Sun Belt Conference and her team-best 16 home runs were second in the SBC.
Day also batted .343, scored 44 runs, recorded 61 hits and stole 13 bases on 15 attempts.
Recently, Day received First-Team All-Sun Belt honors as an outfielder. She was Troy's only First-Team selection and was joined by second baseman Kate Benton on the second team as the Trojans' two All-Sun Belt choices.
The 2016 season marks the 15th Season of Play for Akron, who began operations in 1999. The season begins with a two-game road series against the Pennsylvania Rebellion, in York, Pennsylvania. The Racers will then welcome the Rebellion to Akron for three games June 8-10 to kick off the summer at Firestone Stadium.
