
Racers Offense Comes Alive, Defeats Bandits 11-7

Akron, OH- June 19, 2015- The Akron Racers defeated the Chicago Bandits 11-7 in a shootout in the first game of a doubleheader. The Bandits put up six runs in the top half of the first inning, but the Racers began their comeback scoring 4 runs in the bottom half of the first. Taylor Schlopy(Georgia) hit a laser over the center field fence to start the scoring in the bottom half of the frame, and Shellie Robinson (USC Upstate) hit her second homer in as many games to bring the Racers within two runs. This was the first time that two Racers players have hit home runs in the same inning this season.
The Racers added three runs in the second inning to take the lead. Haley Outon (Houston) drew a loaded bases walk and Jenny Gilbert (Ball State) followed the walk with a double down the right field line that drove in two more runs.
A.J. Andrews (LSU) doubled in a run for the Bandits in the top of the third inning, but the Racers answered when Jill Barrett (Tulsa) laced a single into right field and Ashley Thomas (Georgia Tech) scored on a throwing error. Barrett scored later in the inning when Nerissa Myers (Louisiana Lafayette) dropped a single over the shortstop's head.
Kelly Montalvo (Alabama) hit her first homerun of the year in the bottom of the fourth inning. Myers also blasted a solo shot to right field in the bottom half of the sixth inning to give the Racers a four run lead.
Alison Owen (Mississippi State) relieved Lisa Norris (North Carolina) in the first inning and dominated the game, only allowing one run in the remaining six innings. Owen picked up her first win on the season and Lacey Waldrop picked up the loss for the Bandits. Sarah Pauly (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) came on in relief and picked up the save for the Racers.
