The Woodlands, TX - The Scrap Yard Dawgs defeated the Akron Racers in Game 2 of the two-game series 5-1 on Tuesday night thanks in large part to a pair of two-run home runs.
The Dawgs were first on the board with a two-run homer from Kiki Stokes in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Stokes has a .467 slugging percentage and four home runs so far on the season.
The Racers answered back in the third inning, with a walk to Taylor Schlopy and an RBI single from Sami Fagan to cut the lead in half. When Schlopy scored she set a new franchise mark with 144 runs scored in her career.
The Dawgs attempted to put more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Taylor Fuller leading off with a hit by pitch and Lexi Overstreet followed with a sac bunt to move Fuller to second. Christian Stokes singled up the middle to put runners on the corners, but were left stranded on base.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Nerissa Myers went yard with an opposite field bomb off of Rachele Fico to give the Dawgs two insurance runs. Fuller followed with a walk and Overstreet doubled to center to score Fuller from first base to close the scoring. Aimee Creger entered the circle for the Racers to get the last out of the inning.
The Dawgs and Racers will travel to Akron to face each other again on Friday, July 8, at Firestone Stadium. First pitch for both Friday and Saturday's games in the two-game series are set for 7:05 p.m.
