Akron Racers News Release

WASHINGTON, PA -- After a long nine game road trip, the Pennsylvania Rebellion returned home to the friendly confines of Consol Energy Park Monday evening for a matchup with the visiting Akron Racers. It was a tight, defensive battle that was ultimately won by the Akron Racers by the final score of 2-0.

Racers (15-11) centerfielder Taylor Schlopy wasted no time getting the scoring started. She smacked the third pitch of the game over the left field fence. It was her sixth home run of the season and it had Akron out to an early 1-0 lead.

The Rebellion (11-19) had a chance to answer back quickly after second baseman Kayla Winkfield led off the bottom half of the first inning by getting hit by a pitch from Racers pitcher Jailyn Ford. She advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from shortstop Chaley Brickey, but was stranded there when first baseman Alisa Goler struck out and right fielder Lexie Elkins flew out to end the threat.

Ford was nothing short of stellar this evening as she tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout. She did not allow a hit until the sixth when designated player Mandy Ogle got aboard on an infield single and finally got Pennsylvania into the hit column. Ogle's hit snapped a streak of 15 straight Rebellion batters retired, that began after Ford hit Winkfield with a pitch. For her strong performance, Ford earned Powerhandz Player of the Game honors.

Rebellion pitcher Dallas Escobedo pitched a great game although in a losing effort. She went all seven innings and gave up just a pair of runs on four hits while striking out five Racers.

Akron added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when second baseman Ashley Thomas plated Alex Hugo with a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0.

The Pennsylvania Rebellion (11-19) and the Akron Racers (15-11) each will have the day off tomorrow and use it to travel to Maryland. These two teams meet again on Wednesday night for the first of two games from Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, home of the Delmarva Shore Birds.
