USSSA Pride News Release
Kissimmee, FL - July 12, 2016 - The USSSA Pride lost their fourth consecutive game in a loss to the Scrap Yard Dawgs. The game went to the eighth innings, when Amanda Kamekona made a throwing error that allowed Emily Crane to score and end the game.
Megan Wiggins waits for the pitch as her teammates look on.
The Pride struck first as they scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The runs came on a sacrifice fly from Lauren Chamberlain and a two-out double from Hallie Wilson. The lead didn't last long, as the Dawgs shot back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs of their own.
The league leaders showed some fight, though. They scored again in the third inning, taking a one run lead. The Scrap Yard Dawgs wouldn't stand for it, as they scored two in the bottom of the second to take the 4-3 lead.
It seemed to be a back-and-fourth game until the top of the sixth inning when the Pride tied the game. Leadoff batter Megan Wiggins came through in a time of need, knocking in runs six and seven to tie things up at seven. The game looked as though it would last all night. However, fate struck the Pride in the eighth as the Dawgs took advantage of speed and defensive errors to take the game.
After giving up nine hits and six earned runs, Chelsea Thomas left the game after 2.1 innings pitched. Keilani Ricketts came in as relief and finished the game with four hits, five strikeouts, no walks and just one earned run.
The Pride will try to end their small skid tomorrow (July 12) when they take on the Dallas Charge at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City in the next two games. First pitch is set for 7 PM (ET) for both games (July 12 and July 13).
