Akron Racers News Release

Rosemont, Ill. - With Sharonda McDonald on first after reaching on an error, Racers center fielder Lisa Modglin stepped up to the plate to face off against Bandits ace Monica Abbott. Modglin got the best of Abbott, blasting a two-run home run over the left field wall to give Akron a 2-0 lead.

The Racers would go on to score one more run, but would fail to keep the Bandits under wraps, falling 6-3 to Chicago in game two of the four game series.

The Bandits jumped on the board in the bottom of the second when with bases loaded, Vicky Galindo blasted a two-out, two-run RBI single to left field. Racers' outfielder Taylor Schlopy made a diving effort on the play, coming up just short of getting the catch.

Center fielder Lisa Modglin acted quickly on the play, grabbing the ball and throwing a laser to Kaylyn Castillo at home plate to get Amanda Williams for the final out of the inning, stopping the threat in it's tracks to keep the score at 2-2.

Just one half inning later, the Racers threatened again with two runners on. Racers first baseman Brianna Hesson game through for Akron, smacking an RBI double to bring Lisa Modglin around to score, setting the score at 3-2 in favor of the Racers.

With two down in the top of the third and Castillo on third and Hesson on second, rookie Lexy Bennett batted her way to a 3-2 count against Abbott. Abbott buckled down, forcing Bennett to ground out for the final out of the inning.

Leading off the bottom of the third inning, Bandits center fielder Megan Wiggins made quick work of the Racers lead, blasting a solo home run over the right field wall to tie the game up at 3-3.

Jen Mineau took to the circle as the starter for the Racers, throwing three innings while allowing three hits, three runs and striking out one batter. Lisa Norris entered the circle as her reliever.

The score stayed deadlocked into the top of the fifth when Racers catcher Sam Marder sent a line-drive double down the left field line with two outs in the inning. Marder was left hanging out to dry when Monica Abbott ended the threat with a strikeout.

Marder followed up her double with some excellent defensive work, gunning down an attempted steal by Megan Wiggins at second base to end the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Alisa Goler broke the scoring tie in the bottom of the sixth when she blasted a double off the center field wall, scoring Amber Patton from second base to set the score at 4-3 in favor of the Bandits.

Two batters later the Bandits scored again when Tammy Williams smacked a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score a runner from third base. The Bandits continued their threat in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with one out, forcing Racers pitcher Lisa Norris out of the game. Hillary Bach stepped in to replace Norris with the bases juiced.

Norris threw 2.1 innings, striking out one batter, walking three and giving up two runs on two hits.

The Racers struggles continued when Bach walked Shannon Doepking to bring home a run, making the score 6-3 in favor of Chicago. Bach buckled down to get the final out of the sixth, giving the Racers one last chance in the top of the seventh.

The Racers failed to score in the top of the seventh, falling to the Bandits 6-3.
