HAVE YOU SEEN JACK ROAM?: Through the first two weeks of the 2008 season, penalties are down by 9.1% (14.75 vs. 16.22 per game) against the first two weeks of the 2007 season. Some attribute the decrease to the new "Jack" linebacker rule imposed this offseason. The new rule allows Jack linebackers to roam from sideboard to sideboard within five yards of the line of scrimmage once the play begins. In the past, Jack linebackers were contained in an imaginary box behind the line of scrimmage and were not allowed to leave the box until the ball was thrown by the quarterback.
