 Tri-City Dust Devils

Quick Game Ends in Dust Devils Win

September 4, 2010 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release

In one of the fastest games at Gesa Stadium this year, the Tri-City Dust Devils (13-23) had yet another quality start from Josh Hungerman and just enough offensive output to beat the rival Spokane Indians 4-2. Hungerman on Friday night pitched like a person who wanted to be home in time to catch the opening night of prep football highlights on the 10:00 news, as he absolutely flummoxed Spokane (19-17) hitters for eight innings. The lefty had everything working and it was apparent that tonight would be a career night as for the first 3 2/3 innings he carried a no hitter, and had back to back strike outs in the third inning that visibly buckled the knees of the Indians' batters. Hungerman would end the night with eight dominating innings of two hit ball and no runs scored with 10 strikeouts.

With Hungerman throwing a shutout the only question was if the Dust Devils would score enough runs. For the first five innings this proved to be a very dubious question as Tri-City hitters were hitting the ball on a line, but two very disheartening double plays would end the chance for early runs. However, the script would change in the sixth as timely hitting and a little bit of help from the Spokane defense would help the team erupt for four runs. The inning started with two quick outs but an error by Spokane shortstop Jurickson Profar would open the flood gates. A single and a walk later would bring up first baseman Mark Tracy, who promptly lined a triple into the right field corner to score all three of his teammates. The rally would then end with a single by Jayson Langfels to score Tracy.

The game would turn a bit on the Dust Devils in the bottom of the ninth as a four run lead appeared on the verge of being overcome when Tri-City closer Brad McAtee had a tough time finding the plate. McAtee would allow two runs and three walks before settling down and getting a huge strikeout of Kellin Deglan to end the game with the tying run on second base.

Saturday is game two of the three game final home series of the season for the 2010 campaign. Saturday will also have post game fireworks brought to you by Yakama Nation Legends casino.
