Las Vegas Gladiators News Release
Las Vegas, NV, October 5, 2005 - The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football," awarded Quentin Carter of Cheyenne High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the sixth week of the 2005 high school football season.
Carter, a triple-threat on offense, led the Desert Shields to a 20-14 victory over Mojave on Friday night. The senior rushed for a TD, passed for a score and led Cheyenne in receiving. He also lined up at linebacker and safety on defense as the Desert Shields improved to 4-1.
Cartet also excels off the field as he holds a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.
Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.
The Gladiators fourth season at the Thomas & Mack Center kicks off in 2006. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Gladiators office at 702-731-4977 or logging onto www.lvgladiators.com.
