Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Brandon Montgomery broke a sixth-inning tie with a two-run triple and the Quakes got four scoreless innings out of their bullpen in an 8-6 win over the Lake Elsinore.
Connor Strain fired two scoreless frames before Michael Boyle and Parker Curry retired the final six hitters with five punch-outs in Friday's win, Rancho's third in the last four days over the Storm.
Max Gamboa (3-1) allowed the win, but allowed six runs over five innings.
Nick Yarnall gave the Quakes their first lead of the night, as he slugged a grand slam in the fourth, putting Rancho ahead, 6-4 against Storm starter and Padres' rehabber Bryan Mitchell.
After the Storm evened the game in the last of the fifth inning, it was Montgomery who put the Quakes ahead for good. With two outs, Montgomery tripled to left field, scoring Donovan Casey and Stevie Berman for an 8-6 advantage against Storm reliever Cody Tyler (2-2).
Curry earned his first save of the year with the 1-2-3 ninth.
Cristian Santana made history on Friday, smacking a solo homer, his league-leading 23rd of the year, which also gives him 100 RBIs on the year, making him the first minor leaguer this season to reach the 100-RBI plateau.
Rancho (74-50, 39-15) is now 24 games over .500 for the first time in franchise history. The Quakes will send Leo Crawford (5-0) to the hill on Saturday at 5:00pm, while the Storm will go with lefty Aaron Leasher (1-0).
The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, hosting Lancaster for three straight. Tuesday is Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans will get you a free Club Seat Ticket to the game. Game time is 7:05pm.
