Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- From the outset, the Quakes and Mavericks were lined up for a pitchers duel. Both teams combined for only three hits, one for Rancho and two for High Desert, through the first five innings.
The Mavericks finally plated a run in the 6th, when after a two-out walk to Ian Bladergroen, Carlos Peguero singled into left and where the ball was booted by Jeremy Moore allowing Bladergroen to score and give High Desert a 1-0 lead.
High Desert would knock Robert Fish from the game in the 7th as he allowed a solo home run to Juan Diaz, a single to Tyson Gillies and Edilio Colina reached on an error with one out. Jeremy Haynes came on in relief and induced an inning ending double play to limit the damage to just the one run. Fish was tabbed for one earned run in 6.1 innings allowing five hits and striking out four.
The Mavericks would add another run in the 8th against Haynes as he walked two and induced a possible double play ball that was booted by Carlos Colmenares allowing a run and making the score 3-0.
With the Quakes trailing 3-0 going into the bottom of the 9th, The Mavericks brought in closer Phillippe Aumont. Colmenares led off with a walk, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Jeremy Moore single. With Matt Sweeney at the plate, Moore made it to second on a wild pitch before Sweeney hammered a fastball over the batter's eye in center field for a two-run home run to tie the game 3-3.
The game advanced to the 11th inning still tied 3-3 and the Quakes loaded the bases with one out on walks to Sweeney, Efren Navarro and Clay Fuller before PJ Phillips singled to right center to win the game in walk off style 4-3.
Rancho will send right hander Esmerlin Jimenez to the mound against left hander Jeff Icenogle of the JetHawks for game one of the four game series. Game time is scheduled for 7:35pm.
