Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lancaster, CA - The Quakes halted a four-game losing streak, scoring twice in the ninth inning to down Lancaster by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday night at The Hangar.
The win is just their third in 57 games in which the club trails after eight innings and pulls the Quakes to within two games of both Lancaster and Lake Elsinore, who dropped their third straight in High Desert on Thursday evening.
Trailing 7-6 in the top of the ninth, Yasiel Puig opened the frame with a hard grounder that was misplayed by Lancaster second baseman Delino DeShields. Austin Gallagher followed with a single to left off of JetHawks' closer Andrew Robinson, moving the tying run to third base and putting the go-ahead run at first. With Chris Jacobs at the plate, Robinson (4-5) uncorked a wild pitch, tying the game at 7-7 and moving Gallagher into scoring position. Jacobs followed with a single to left, putting runners at the corners. Robinson struck out Angelo Songco for the first out of the inning, put Pedro Baez followed with a sac fly to left, scoring Gallagher to give the Quakes their fourth lead of the night at 7-6.
Yimi Garcia, who came on with a man aboard in the seventh, worked around a one-out walk in the ninth, leaving the tying run at first base to finish it off. Garcia (2-1) allowed just one walk over 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out five in the win.
The Quakes and JetHawks traded punches all night long, with neither team able to hold the lead until the last out of the ninth.
Jacobs had a big night for the Quakes, with two hits and two RBIs, including a solo homer in the second, his 13th of the year.
Joc Pederson finished with his third multi-hit game of the series, as he went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
With just 12 games to go in the regular season, the Quakes (63-65) are just two games out of the Wild Card in the South Division. Garrett Gould (4-8) will head to the hill on Thursday night in the road-trip finale, with Lancaster's David Martinez (7-5) going for the JetHawks (65-63) at 7:00pm.
The Quakes will return to The Epicenter on Friday, August 24th, as 1,500 fans will receive a free Dodgertown Rancho Cucamonga Doormat, thanks to Allstar KIA. Gates open at 6:05pm and game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
