Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, CA - The JetHawks went into the ninth inning on Wednesday night with a chance to put themselves at the very front of the playoff race. With a win they would have moved into second place and four games ahead of the Quakes.
A costly ninth inning error led to two unearned runs and Lancaster fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 8-7, in the third game of the four game series at The Hangar.
Yasiel Puig started the ninth with a ground ball to second base against Andrew Robinson (4-5). Delino DeShields Jr. backed up and was not able to field the ball cleanly. Puig would later move to third on an Austin Gallagher single and score on a Robinson wild pitch to tie the game.
Gallagher would advance to third base on a Chris Jacobs single and then scored the go-ahead run on Pedro Baez's sacrifice fly to give the Quakes the 8-7 lead. Yimil Garcia (2-1) pitched a scoreless ninth to finish the game.
The JetHawks led for most of the game and got big nights from two of their outfielders. Andrew Aplin went 3-for-5 with his first home run as a JetHawk. The outfielder drove in two runs.
Drew Muren went 2-for-4 in the game including a two-run inside-the-park home run in the second inning. The left fielder drove in a total of three runs in the game.
Jonathan Meyer also picked up three hits and scored two runs. He did not drive in a run in the game.
Starter Colton Cain struggled in his fifth start in Lancaster. The left-hander allowed six runs on six hits over four innings of work. He allowed a solo home run to Chris Jacobs in the second inning.
The JetHawks (65-63, 28-30) will look for the series win on Thursday night against the Quakes (63-65, 26-32). David Martinez will make the start against Garrett Gould. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm on the final Cheers Buck Beers Thursday of the season.
