Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rallied from an early 4-0 deficit, to defeat the Lancaster JetHawks by a final score of 6-5 on Tuesday night at The Epicenter.

A four-run first inning wasn't enough to keep Lancaster's five-game winning streak alive, as the Quakes won their second straight game to remain 3 ½ games out of first place in the South.

Quakes' starter Ryan Chaffee had an up-and-down evening. After retiring the first two batters of the game, Chaffee allowed back-to-back walks, followed by an RBI single to Mark Ori, as the JetHawks took a 1-0 lead. Federico Hernandez followed with a three-run blast to right field, his second of the year to make it 4-0.

Lancaster starter Ross Seaton (1-3) retired the first six Quakes he faced, but started to struggle in the middle innings. Angel Castillo opened the third with a single and came home on Alexi Amarista's first homer as a Quake, a two-run shot to cut the JetHawks' lead to 4-2.

In the fourth, Gabe Jacobo and Jon Townsend opened the inning with consecutive hits, then scored on Darwin Perez's two-run triple, as the Quakes evened the game at 4-4. Perez later scored on an RBI groundout by Rian Kiniry, putting the Quakes in front 5-4.

Chaffee (2-1) worked four scoreless innings to finish his evening, allowing a total of four runs on six hits over five innings in the win.

Rancho Cucamonga added an important insurance run in the seventh, as Jake Rife ripped a double off the wall in center field. Two batters later, with Rife at third base, Beau Brooks laid down a suicide-squeeze to bring in another run and give the Quakes a 6-4 edge.

After Christian Scholl worked two scoreless frames of relief, the JetHawks touched Andrew Taylor for a run in the eighth, as they pulled to within a run at 6-5.

That would be all for Lancaster though, as closer Eddie McKiernan fired a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his third save of the year.

The win for the Quakes moves them back over the .500 mark at 17-16. Ariel Pena (0-0) will make his California League debut on Wednesday, as he faces Lancaster left-hander Dallas Keuchel (1-2) at 7:05pm. 1,000 fans in attendance on Wednesday, will receive a FREE collectible Quakes Magnet as part of our Great Quakes Magnet Series. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter very soon. Go Quakes!
