Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Lake Elsinore jumped out and grabbed a lead in game two of the series as Felix Carrasco hit a solo home run in the 2nd inning to take a 1-0 edge.

The lead did not last long though as the Quakes answered with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Efren Navarro led off with a double, Jeremy Moore walked and with one out Alberto Rosario hit an infield single to score Navarro and tie the game 1-1. With runners on the corners, Hector Estrella drove in a run on a fielder's choice to take a 2-1 lead.

Rancho added a run in the 3rd on a Julio Perez RBI single to grab a 3-1 advantage.

Lake Elsinore would tie the score in the 5th against starter Esmerlin Jimenez as the Storm got run scoring plays on an RBI single by Brad Chalk and an RBI sacrifice fly from Carrasco to bring it to a 3-3 game.

Cephas Howard entered in the sixth and did not retire a batter as he allowed a walk, an RBI double and passed ball to score two more Storm runs. Jordon Towns came in with runners on first and second and retired the side in order with two strikeouts to prevent any further damage.

The score would stay 5-3 until the bottom of the 7th when Matt Sweeney singled to right and advanced to second on an error by right fielder Danny Payne. That set up Julio Perez who singled up to center to bring the Quakes within a run 5-4.

The Storm separated themselves in the 8th plating three runs on three hits highlighted by a bases loaded, two-run double by Carrasco and a bases load walk by Danny Payne to grab a 8-4 lead.

The Quakes cut into the lead in the 8th as Jeremy Moore blasted his second home run of the year, a two run shot, to bring Rancho within two, 8-6.

In the 9th, the Quakes got a lead off single by Andrew Romine, Matt Sweeney reached on a fielder's choice and Julio Perez grounded out to first to advance the runner to second. Navarro came to the plate as the tying run and singled down the left field line to score pinch runner Carlos Colmenares to bring it to an 8-7 score, but Navarro was thrown out trying to stretch the single into a double to end the game.

Rancho will try and avoid the sweep Thursday with left hander Jayson Miller for the Quakes against right hander Corey Kluber of the Storm. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
