Quakes Blasted in Series-Opener

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Giants hammered out 18 hits and capitalized on five Rancho errors, defeating the Quakes in Tuesday's series-opener, 18-4 at Excite Ballpark.

San Jose's Grant McCray homered and collected five hits, helping the Giants win in their first head-to-head meeting with the Quakes in 2022.

Rancho starter Joel Ibarra (0-1) used a double-play ball to get out of a scoreless first, but gave up three in the second, suffering the loss.

The Giants blew it open with six in the third, taking a commanding 9-0 lead.

Rancho's runs came in the fourth and seventh, respectively. Yeiner Fernandez tripled home a run and then scored on an error in the fourth, making it 9-2. Trailing 12-2 in the seventh, Yunior Garcia doubled home a pair off eventual winner Esmerlin Vinicio (4-0), capping their scoring at 12-4.

The Giants piled on, scoring six in the eighth and forcing the Quakes to use infielder Kenneth Betancourt to finish the game.

Rancho (13-12, 49-42) will send Maddux Bruns (0-2) to the mound on Wednesday afternoon, as he'll take on Seth Lonsway (7-1) at 1pm in game two of the series.

The Quakes will eventually return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, August 2, as they host the Inland Empire 66ers in a six-game set. Tuesday, August 2 will be a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
