Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Rancho manufactured a run in the home half of the first inning to take the lead against Lake Elsinore in game three of the four game series, as Peter Bourjos singled to lead off, stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a Wil Ortiz sacrifice fly to lead 1-0.

Quakes starter Tommy Mendoza was perfect through two innings, but hit a big road block in the 3rd, allowing seven runs on six hits to the Storm highlighted by a three-run double by Cedric Hunter, an RBI double by Eric Sogard, an RBI triple by Mitch Canham and an RBI single by Brian Joynt to lead 7-1.

The Quakes would answer in the 4th with a one out walk to Ortiz and Mark Trumbo promptly followed with his 12th home run of the season to cut the deficit to four runs. However, that is as close as the Quakes would get.

Lake Elsinore added two runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Keoni Ruth to knock out Mendoza after 4.2 innings. Marco Albano came in an gave up a base hit to right center that was bobbled by right field Rian Kiniry to allow another run to score to take a 9-3 lead. The Storm added two more in the 7th on Joynt's first professional home run, a two run shot, to make it the eventual 11-3 final score.

The Quakes never got it going against Storm starter Drew Miller as he picked up his fifth win of the season by going 6 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out six batters.

Rancho will try to salvage a series split against the Storm with Amalio Diaz on the mound, who has won his last two starts. Lake Elsinore will go with lefty Nathan Culp. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
