Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Sean O'Sullivan (12-4) pitched seven innings of shutout baseball as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes defeated the Stockton Ports 7-2 Tuesday night at the Epicenter. Rancho had been winless in eight games against the Ports on the season before tonight's victory.
Ryan Mount got the Quakes on the board in the first inning with a solo home run off of Ports starter Henry Rodriguez (2-3). Mount went 2-for-4 on the night with a homer and a triple and has now homered in three games in a row, boosting his season total to seven.
Rancho added a run in the fourth inning on a Hank Conger RBI single which scored Ryan Mount from second and pushed the Quakes lead to 2-0 against Henry Rodriguez and the Ports.
For five innings, Henry Rodriguez baffled Quakes hitters with his overpowering fastball, but in the sixth inning, Rancho chased Rodriguez by scoring four runs on six hits and pushing their lead to 6-0. The Hank Conger and Ryan Mount duo struck again for the Quakes in the sixth inning as Conger singled in Mount, who reached on a lead-off triple, giving Rancho a 3-0 lead. P.J. Phillips then came through with a run-scoring triple and Alberto Rosario followed with an RBI single and then came in to score on an error for their final run in the inning, building Rancho's lead to 6-0. Rodriguez pitched 5 2/3 innings for Stockton allowing six runs, five earned, while striking out seven batters, six of those strikeouts coming in the first two innings.
Stockton threatened in the top of the seventh with runners on first and third against Rancho and starter Sean O'Sullivan but couldn't push any runs across as O'Sullivan struck out Carlos Arrieche to end the inning. O'Sullivan pitched seven shutout innings to get the win, allowing three hits while striking out eight.
The Quakes made it 7-0 in the seventh inning on a run-scoring triple by Drew Toussaint which scored Conger who reached base with his third single of the night. Toussaint's triple extended his hitting streak to 17 games and Conger finished his night 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored.
Stockton scored two runs in the ninth against David Herndon but it was not enough as the Quakes defeated the Ports 7-2.
Tommy Mendoza (4-11, 4.37 ERA) gets the start for Rancho against Stockton's Travis Banwart (0-2, 3.63 ERA) on Wednesday at 7:05.
