Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Last week, the Lewiston MAINEiacs faced quite the challenge, as they played four games in six days, including two against teams in the BMO CHL Top 10 Rankings. The week started with a couple of positive notes, beginning with a crazy 2-1 overtime win at Cape Breton - a game that saw Lewiston put 51 shots on goal. The next morning, the MAINEiacs woke up and found themselves in the Top 10 for the first time since 2007, as they were ranked tenth overall. From there, the road got tough, as Lewiston fell on back-to-back nights to Moncton (4-3), and Saint John (6-2), before a 5-3 loss to Montreal at home on Sunday. The MAINEiacs remain in second place in the Telus East Division with a 21-11-0-2 record (44 points), and are tied with Drummondville for fourth overall.

Last Week in the Telus East Division
The Quebec Remparts (23-7-0-2, 48 pts) have made Colisee Pepsi a challenging place for visiting teams to play this season, and that continued this weekend, as the Remparts upped their home record to 15-2. After a 5-2 loss in Victoriaville on Friday, Quebec returned home to defeat Shawinigan 6-2 and Cape Breton 4-0.
The Victoriaville Tigres (16-14-1-1, 34 pts) had a key week, as all three of their games were played against Telus East Division opponents. The Tigres started with a 3-2 shootout victory in Rimouski on Tuesday, before continuing that success in a 5-2 win against Quebec on Friday. However, the week didn't have a happy ending, as Victoriaville was on the wrong end of an 8-5 score against Chicoutimi on Sunday.
The Rimouski Oceanic (15-17-0-1, 31 pts) have slumped into fourth place in the division, and will have to watch their backs for the suddenly streaking Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Rimouski got one point to start the week, as they fell 3-2 in a shootout against Victoriaville. However, one point is all they got during the week, as the Oceanic lost 5-3 to Chicoutimi on Friday and 3-2 to Baie-Comeau on Saturday.
The Chicoutimi Sagueneens (12-15-2-3, 29 pts) had their best week of the season, winning all three times they took the ice. Faced with the challenge of three games in three days, the Sagueneens started at home with wins over Rimouski (5-3) and Cape Breton (8-4). Then, on Sunday, Chicoutimi put an exclamation point on the weekend, defeating Victoriaville 8-5 on the road.
The Baie-Comeau Drakkar (3-21-4-4, 14 pts) are starting to put things together after an extremely rough start to the season. Baie-Comeau picked up three out of four possible points last week, as they were involved in a pair of one-goal contests. After a 5-4 shootout loss to Cape Breton on Friday, the Drakkar rebounded to edge Rimouski 3-2.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL
Without a doubt, the hottest team in the league right now is the Saint John Sea Dogs. Saint John hasn't lost in regulation in 15 games, and is also perfect in regulation at home, posting a 15-0-0-1 record at Harbour Station. The Sea Dogs held all three of their opponents to two goals last week, while lighting the lamp for seven against Acadie-Bathurst, six against Lewiston, and five against Gatineau.
The Gatineau Olympiques were faced with the challenge of four games in five days on the road, while having to play against the top four teams from the Maritimes Division. The Olympiques went 2-2 on their trip, starting with wins in PEI (4-1) and Moncton (4-3 in OT). However, as the week came to an end, so did Gatineau's winning ways, as they lost in Saint John (5-2) and Acadie-Bathurst (8-2).
The Montreal Junior picked up three wins in four games last week, including two victories away from home. Montreal started the week out west, splitting a pair of games in Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or. The Junior spanked the Huskies 9-2, before falling 4-3 to the Foreurs. After that, Montreal returned home to beat Shawinigan 4-1, before finishing the week with a 5-3 win in Lewiston.
The Drummondville Voltigeurs also had their compasses pointing to the "W", as they faced the Huskies and Foreurs. Drummondville came away with wins in both tilts, knocking off Rouyn-Noranda 4-1 and Val-d'Or 6-3.
Five other games took place in the league last week, with Shawinigan beating Halifax 2-1, Acadie-Bathurst blanking PEI 8-0, Halifax using a shootout to knock off Val-d'Or 4-3, PEI doubling up Moncton 6-3, and Rouyn-Noranda edging Halifax 3-2.
