QMJHL Players of the Month Named for November 2023
December 1, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
Forward of the Month
Jordan Dumais - Halifax Mooseheads - 12GP, 8G, 19A, 26Pts
Not surprisingly, when Jordan Dumais made it back to the 'Q' after an extended stay at Columbus Blue Jackets training camp, he hit the ground running. That run has turned into a sprint towards the top of the scoring race. With points in 11 of 12 November contests, including multiple points on nine occasions, he's been - as usual - the lynchpin of a Mooseheads squad that has taken over first place in the Maritime Division. His three-assist performance on the 12thversus the Cape Breton Eagles broke a 20-year-old record for career points in a Mooseheads sweater. A four-point night against the Armada in Blainville on the 29th produced the 200th assist of his career. To cap all of this off, the fourth-year veteran also posted a +/- rating of +13 on the month.
The 19-year-old from Ile Bizard, Quebec now sits second in league scoring with 41 points in just 17 games. This after winning the scoring title last year with a Moose single season record 140 points.
Honorable Mention
Peter Reynolds - Saint John Sea Dogs - 11GP, 10G, 10A, 20Pts
Defenseman of the Month
Alexis Bernier - Baie-Comeau Drakkar - 12GP, 2G, 8A, 10Pts
On a team best known for its offensive prowess, Alexis Bernier has proven not only to be a stabilizing force on the back end for an up-and-coming Drakkar squad, he's starting to chip in on the other side of the puck as well. November saw the 17-year-old from St-Valerien, Quebec double his October output. The highlight of the month for the sophomore rearguard occurred from the 4th-18th, when he recorded a six-game point streak for the league leading Drakkar. Bernier registered an even rating or better in every November game - in fact, he hasn't been a minus player in any game over the past month and a half - ending the month an impressive +19.
Bernier, a second-round selection of the Drakkar at the 2022 QMJHL Draft, has posted 16 points in 28 games, one point away from matching his rookie total, set in 64 games.
Honorable Mention
Anthony Lavoie - Baie-Comeau Drakkar - 12GP, 2G, 6A, 8Pts
Rookie of the Month
Raoul Boilard - Baie-Comeau Drakkar - 12GP, 4G, 9A, 13Pts
When Drakkar GM Jean-Francois Gregoire brought brothers Raoul and Jules Boilard to Baie-Comeau this season, it was considered a savvy move. It turns out that was an understatement. Raoul, a 17-year-old from Sherbrooke, has adapted to the Drakkar like a veteran, recording four multi-point game in November. On the 12th against the Val-d'Or Foreurs, Boilard recorded his first two-goal game, a feat some impressive he did it again four days later against Saint John. To add to the milestone, he notched the game winner in each of those contests. In the faceoff circle, Boilard is already exhibiting a veteran presence, approaching a 60% win rate in the dot.
Raoul Boilard currently leads all rookies with 28 points in as many games. Acquired from the Gatineau Olympiques during the QMJHL Draft weekend last June, Boilard recorded 22 points with the BCHL's Salmon Arm Silverbacks and Alberni Valley Bulldogs last season.
Honorable Mention
Emile Guite - Chicoutimi Sagueneens - 6GP, 6G, 4A, 10Pts
Goaltender of the Month
Nathan Darveau - Victoriaville Tigres - 6-1-0-0, 1,85 GAA, .940 Sv%, 2 SO
Nathan Darveau is proving last season was far from a fluke. The 20-year-old from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec is just as dominating in the yellow and black as ever, riding a five-game winning streak, with one no-decision, into the final month of 2023. Allowing three goals or fewer in each of his appearances during the month, Darveau put in a spectacular streak during a home-and-home series against the Shawinigan Cataractes on the 17th and 18th, making 33 and 25 saves, respectively, to blank the Tigres' rivals in consecutive games. The fourth-year veteran would run his shutout streak to 166 minutes, nine seconds, a new franchise record. Darveau also notched a 32-save win against the Quebec Remparts in his most recent triumph.
Sitting among the top five in GAA (2.33) and save percentage (.924%), Darveau has posted 12 wins on the year so far, including his 50th career QMJHL victory in that aforementioned November 17th decision against Shawinigan.
Honorable Mention
Jakub Milota - Cape Breton Eagles - 3-3-0-0, 1.93 GAA, .931 Sv%, 1 SO
