
Q&A with New Orleans VooDoo Ol Daverin Geralds

NEW ORLEANS (June 11, 2012) - Late last week, intern Austin Swanson sat down with New Orleans VooDoo offensive lineman Daverin Geralds for this week's VooDoo Question and Answer. Geralds is in his second season in the AFL and with the VooDoo.
AUSTIN SWANSON: What would be your ultimate SportsCenter highlight?
DAVERIN GERALDS: If one of my plays were picked for SportsCenter, my ultimate highlight would probably be during the Cotton Bowl in 2008 when I made a block downfield on a screen.
AS: What was your first impression of Coach O'Hara?
DG: He is a player's coach, calm, cool, and everybody wants to play for him.
AS: What was your most embarrassing moment on the football field?
DG: When I ran out on the field during a timeout thinking the teams changed positions.
AS: What got you started playing football?
DG: I love playing basketball as a kid. I was the biggest player on the court. A friend of my mom, who was a coach, got me into football. Everyone kept telling me I should be playing football.
AS: For you to improve as a player, you need to do what?
DG: I need to be more consistent, I need to do good things as much as possible, and I need to play with the same technique.
AS: What do you feel are 3 characteristics a good teammate should have?
DG: A good teammate should be unselfish, hard-working, and dedicated.
AS: Did you ever think about quitting football for personal reasons or because of injury?
DG: When I was released from a team, I was able to take some family time out. I did think about quitting because I wanted to be around them more.
AS: If the VooDoo win the ArenaBowl, the first thing you will do is."
DG: I would celebrate with my teammates, and Gatorade bath coach Pat O'Hara.
AS: Do you have a nickname and how did you get that nickname?
DG: My nickname is 'Big D' because I was always bigger than everybody else.
AS: Do you have a favorite quote or saying?
DG: I can do all things through Christ (Corinthians 4:13).
AS: What is your favorite book and why?
DG: The Blind Side because it's about one of my old teammates, Michael Orr.
AS: What is your personal touchdown celebration?
DG: I would step in the end zone and tell security to watch us because we're hot!
AS: Which superhero would you most like to be and why?
DG: I would want to be the Hulk because he is unstoppable and has super strength.
AS: Do you have a favorite T.V. show and why do you like that show?
DG: My favorite T.V. show is 'The Game' because it depicts the life of athletes, and I can relate to the characters in that show.
AS: Who is your favorite character on "Jersey Shore" and why?
DG: My favorite character is Mike 'The Situation' because he is always starting something with the other people in the house.
AS: What is your favorite movie and why?
DG: My favorite movie is 'Bad Boys II.' I love the combination of action and comedy. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith are the perfect duo.
AS: Do you have any tattoos?
DG: I have a tattoo on my right arm of my family. I have a cross with my mom's name on it.
AS: Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
DG: In 20 years, hopefully I will be a retired NFL veteran and maybe coaching.
AS: Where is your favorite place to eat in New Orleans and why?
DG: My favorite place is Jagers because it's all Louisiana home-cooking, and it's the best of Louisiana seafood.
AS: What do you like most about Mardi Gras?
DG: The fact that everyone celebrates no matter what and everybody supports it. I love the environment.
AS: What was your favorite subject in school and why?
DG: My favorite subject was Mathematics because I like numbers, and it always came easy to me.
AS: Do you have any pregame rituals on game day?
DG: I listen to music, make sure I get a good warm-up, and I pray.
AS: The best player you've ever played against was who?
DG: I played against Tim Tebow when I was at Ole Miss, and we won.
