NEW ORLEANS (May 21, 2012) - Late last week, intern Emily Seelig sat down with New Orleans VooDoo mac linebacker Derandus Frye for this week's VooDoo Question and Answer. Frye is a rookie between the walls and a New Orleans native.
EMILY SEELIG: Do you have any connection to your jersey number?
DERANDUS FRYE: My number represents the year I was born in: '89.
ES: What do you feel are 3 characteristics a good teammate should have?
DF: Knowledge, leadership and good team management skills I feel are very important.
ES: What is the funniest thing that ever happened during a game?
DF: I once witnessed someone running over a referee.
ES: If the VooDoo win the ArenaBowl, the first thing you will do is...?
DF: I would call my mom and tell her the great and exciting news! She'd be very proud.
ES: What is your favorite touchdown celebration?
DF: The Lambeau Leap; I would love to do it someday.
ES: What is your favorite song of all-time?
DF: "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.
ES: Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera and why?
DF: Britney Spears because she's from Louisiana!
ES: Nobody knows how much you like to...?
DF: Sing.
ES: Do you have a favorite T.V. show and why do you like that show?
DF: Any show that comes on ESPN. I enjoy watching anything that's associated with sports.
ES: What is your biggest fear?
DF: Heights.
ES: What do you like to do on your off days?
DF: I like to play Call of Duty with my friends and relax.
ES: What is your best non-athletic talent?
DF: My best non-athletic talent is cutting hair. It's something that I'm really good at!
ES: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
DF: I would love to control the weather!
ES: What was your favorite subject in school and why?
DF: My favorite subject in school was math because I am really good with numbers.
ES: What is your favorite New Orleans Festival and why?
DF: My favorite New Orleans Festival is Jazz Fest because of all the different artists that perform. The food of course, too!
ES: Top-five on your bucket list?
DF: Retire as a football player, have a boy, win a Superbowl, meet Michael Vick and play one-on-one basketball with Kobe Bryant.
ES: Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
DF: Kicking back on a beach somewhere.
ES: What is your most valued possession?
DF: My car.
ES: Do you have any pregame rituals on game day?
DF: I listen to a lot of Rick Ross.
ES: Tupac or Biggie Smalls and why?
DF: Tupac because he's better than Biggie.
ES: What was your greatest moment outside of sports?
DF: When my daughter was born.
ES: What is your favorite food and why do you like that food?
DF: My favorite food is lasagna because of the ground beef.
ES: What is the one thing you'd most like to change about the world?
DF: I'd want to change the crime that goes on in the world.
ES: What do you like most about Mardi Gras?
DF: I love the crowds and all of the different types of people that come together to enjoy the atmosphere and have a good time.
ES: Growing up were you a Playstation or a Nintendo 64 guy and why?
DF: I'd have to say Nintendo 64 because of the older games. They were more fun.
