Q&A with New Orleans VooDoo DB Jeremy Kellem

NEW ORLEANS (June 25, 2012) - Late last week, intern Nate Welch sat down with New Orleans VooDoo defensive back Jeremy Kellem for this week's VooDoo Question and Answer. Kellem is a rookie in the AFL and is making a strong case for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
NATE WELCH: What would be your ultimate SportsCenter highlight?
JEREMY KELLEM: I would make a one-handed interception in the NFL and do the "Primetime" into the end zone for a touchdown.
NW: What was your first impression of Coach O'Hara?
JK: He's a real cool dude, laid back, and he's a player's coach.
NW: What is your earliest sports memory?
JK: I made a bet with my dad when I was young during a baseball game. He told me if I hit four home-runs he would do a back flip. So I went out there and hit four home runs in the game and my dad said, "Boy I can't do a back flip!"
NW: What was your greatest sports moment?
JK: Winning the New Orleans Bowl in 2009 because it was my first Bowl Championship.
NW: Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
JK: Santana Moss, because when I was young I saw him return a punt for touchdown live at a Washington Redskins game and was amazed by his speed.
NW: Any connection to your jersey number?
JK: Yes. When I was in high school I begged my coach to let me wear number 20 and I got it. So I've worn number 20 ever since I was in high school.
NW: What got you started playing football?
JK: I have always loved the game. When I was a baby my mom said I would watch T.V. like a grown man and when a commercial would come on I'd cry until the game would come back on.
NW: The best player you ever played against was who?
JK: C.J. Spiller. I played against him my junior year in college.
NW: For you to improve as a player, you need to do what?
JK: I need to keep working hard and remember "A good player knows his job, a great player knows everybody else's."
NW: What are three characteristics a good teammate should have?
JK: A good teammate should be positive and encouraging, an accountability partner that lets you know when you need to do something, and lead by example because actions speak louder than words.
NW: If the VooDoo win the ArenaBowl, the first thing you will do is.?
JK: Thank God, then hold the trophy and kiss it like they do in the Super Bowl.
NW: What is your personal touchdown celebration?
JK: The Primetime high step into the Dougie.
NW: Which celebrity would you most like to meet and why?
JK: Ray Lewis, because he's the ultimate leader. His teammates feed off of his energy and he brings out the best in them.
NW: Do you have a favorite T.V. show and why do you like that show?
JK: ESPN First Take, because I love the debates Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless have.
NW: Which actor would like to see play you in a movie?
JK: Martin Lawrence, because he has been hilarious to me since I was young.
NW: What do you like most about Mardi Gras?
JK: I love the atmosphere. Everyone is out partying and having fun together.
NW: What is your favorite video game and do you have a favorite story about that game?
JK: NBA 2K12. I created my own "My Player" and it makes me feel like I'm in the NBA putting up 50 points a game.
NW: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or Wii?
JK: PlayStation 3, because I grew up playing PlayStation since the first one came out.
NW: What would your ideal first date be and why?
JK: I'd take my date to eat at nice restaurant and have a good conversation. Then, we'd go see a movie and share a bag of popcorn. After the movie, I'd drop her off at home and hopefully get a second date because I like to take things slow.
NW: What magazines or websites do you subscribe to?
JK: ESPN.com and NFL.com to keep up with the latest news in sports.
