Rush Move into Top Five in Week 17 Power Rankings

Published on June 25, 2012 under Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

CHICAGO - The only movement seen in the Week 17 AFL Power Rankings was the Chicago Rush (9-5) moving up one spot to number five following a 59-41 Central Division victory over the Kansas City Command (3-11). The first four spots in the Power Rankings remained the same.

For the sixth consecutive week, the Arizona Rattlers (11-3) maintain the top spot in the Power Rankings. The Rattlers returned from a bye to handily defeat the Milwaukee Mustangs (5-9) for the second time this season, 52-37. Arizona travels to Spokane in Week 17 to face the Shock (8-6), who are fresh off an upset victory over the San Jose SaberCats (9-6). The Rattlers can clinch a playoff berth with a win and a San Jose loss in Week 17.

The San Antonio Talons (11-3) earned their eighth straight victory in Week 17, handing the Tampa Bay Storm (6-8) their first home loss of the season. The Talons have not lost since April 22 against the Arizona Rattlers. San Antonio can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Kansas City Command (3-11) in Week 17.

The right arm of quarterback Tommy Grady led the Utah Blaze (10-5) to victory over the Georgia Force (7-8) in Week 16. Grady broke Chris Greisen's AFL single-season passing touchdowns mark of 117 in the game. Nick Davila of the Rattlers tied the mark last season. The Blaze will take the record and victory into a Week 17 bye, as they prepare to travel to the Valley for a divisional matchup with the Arizona Rattlers in a game that could have very significant playoff implications.

The Chicago Rush were aided by the Spokane Shock upsetting the San Jose SaberCats in Week 16. The SaberCats, who have lost four of the last six games, dropped to seventh in the Power Rankings, while the Shock moved up to sixth. The Rush will host San Jose in Week 17. The game will likely decide which team will earn a wildcard berth in the postseason.

The AFL Power Rankings are calculated on AFLFieldPass.com using vPower(tm), a scoring system based on winning percentage, strength of schedule, scoring percentage, and win-streak. The scale is normalized from 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest).
