January 6, 2011 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Brooklyn Aviators News Release

Brooklyn, NY ‚¬" Matthew Puntureri scored the game winning goal 1:13 into overtime to lift the New York Aviators over the Danbury Whalers, 3-2, in Federal Hockey League action.

This is the sixth straight win the A's have put together against the Whalers, as New York moves to 13-12-2 on the season behind Puntureri's two-point performance. Both teams failed to score in the opening frame, as Danbury net minder Peter Skoggard turned away all 15 Aviator tries. New York, though, had their chances on the man advantage with two opportunities, however, the Whalers held the League's third best power play off the board.

The second period was a different story with both clubs trading power play goals. The Whalers got on the board first, as newcomer Martin Moucha registered his first tally in a Danbury jersey at the 16:48 mark. Moucha buried a rebound in front, just 20 seconds into their first power play to give the Whalers the 1-0 lead.

New York, though, got some clarification from a goal judge after referee Eric Ernst questioned their first marker. Moucha went to the box for hooking with 1:11 left in the second, and A's defenseman David Inman snapped a quick shot past Skoggard. The puck hit the far post, and then appeared to trickle in after some commotion in front of the net. There was no initial signal from Ernst, who later called it a goal. For Inman, it was his fifth tally of the season.

In the final frame, both clubs netted goals to take into the overtime session.

A's net minder Kevin Druce nabbed his 10th win of the year stopping 18 shots, while Skoggard is charged with the loss despite putting aside 28 pucks.

The New York Aviators head to Connecticut on Friday night to take on the Whalers in the back end of this home and home series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM at the Danbury Ice Arena and can be watched live at www.livesportsvideo.com.
