East Texas PumpJacks News Release

A ninth inning rally fell short as the Pump Jacks suffered their fourth straight loss. Four games still remain in the homestand as the Jacks look to turn their luck around.

The East Texas Pump Jacks' return to Driller Park did not go as they hoped, as they dropped game one of a four night homestand 4-2 to the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Thursday night. Costly errors and missed opportunities once again proved to be the Jacks' downfall as three of the four Acadiana runs were unearned.

The Pump Jacks got on the board first in the home half of the third inning. Only a half of an inning earlier outfielder Devon Conley stole a run from the Cane Cutters with a great inning ending throw to retire the runner attempting to score from third. One batter later, Conley then contributed offensively for the Pump Jacks. With one out, Conley advanced to first on a bunt single, and then moved to second on a throwing error by the Acadiana pitcher. Conley then took third on a wild pitch, and crossed home on an RBI single by Connor Huesers, his third RBI in just three games.

The Pump Jacks were victimized by a big inning for the Cane Cutters in the fourth. The inning saw Acadiana send nine batters to the plate and score three runs, all of which were unearned. The bases were quickly loaded after an error from Wes Edrington and back-to-back singles. The first run of the inning would cross home on Edrington's second error of the inning tying the game at one. Nick Rossetta was able to battle back and get the second out of the inning with a big strikeout, however the bases remained loaded. He then allowed another two softly hit singles to drive home two more runs for the Cutters and give them a 3-1 advantage.

The Pump Jacks threatened to score in the bottom of the sixth, but missed opportunities stopped the Jacks' rally in its tracks.

Matthew Dickey led off the inning reaching first on an error. He then stole second for his 11th stolen base of the season. Ty Marlow put runners on first and second after being hit by a pitch, and then Joey Armstrong advanced both runners into scoring position with a ground out to second. J.J. Robinson forced a walk to load the bases full of Pump Jacks. However that is where the inning would end, as the offense could not come through stranding all three runners.

Rossetta's night was done after a solid six innings on the mound. He allowed three runs, all of which were unearned, on six hits while striking out four and only walking a single batter. Rossetta gave way to Jacob Kelzer who pitched 1.1 innings, allowing the final run of the game by issuing a bases loaded walk in the eighth. Dillon Moritz then entered to record the final two outs of the eighth by inducing a 4-3 double play ball, which kept the score at 4-1. Mortitz finished the game for the Jacks pitching 1.2 innings with a walk and a strikeout.

The Pump Jacks did not go quietly into the Kilgore night mounting a rally with two outs in the ninth, but were unable to overcome the Cutters.

Edrington kept the Jacks alive with a single to right. He then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Acadiana catcher. Brooks Marlow, who entered the game in the seventh, then cut the Cane Cutters lead in half with an RBI single to drive home Edrington from third. That is where the score would stay as a pop fly to center ended the inning and the game, giving the Cane Cutters a 4-2 win.
