East Texas PumpJacks News Release

The Pump Jacks fall to the Generals 9-5 to drop the series in Victoria. But the Jacks are ready to return home to Driller Park for a four-night homestand filled with promotions and giveaways, kicking off Thursday night.

For the second night in a row, the East Texas Pump Jacks fell victim to the Victoria Generals on the road, dropping the final game of the series by a score of 9-5. The Pump Jacks complied 13 hits but were unable to capitalize, stranding 11 runners on the base path throughout the course of the ballgame.

The game took a rough start for the Jacks, when Victoria scored three runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Starting pitcher Ben Mordini, struggled with his command and was only able to record one out before leaving the game. Jordan Price came on in relief and helped carry the Pump Jacks through five innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out four.

Connor Huesers made his first start for the Pump Jacks after arriving in Texas less than 48 hours ago. Huesers finished the night 3-for-5 with two RBI.

The Pump Jacks opened up their scoring in the top of the second. With two outs, Wes Edrington walked to keep the Jacks alive in the inning. Edrington then stole second, and came around to score on a Matthew Dickey single to close the gap to two, 3-1.

The Generals took a three run lead again in the home half of the inning when an unearned run came across the plate on an error by Garrett McMullen at first.

The Jacks retaliated in the third to come within striking distance, 4-2, a score that would remain until the sixth inning. In the third, Huesers drove home his first run of the night and the season on a single to left. Then, in the sixth, East Texas added another run to inch closer to the Generals. With one out, Zach Jones walked, and then a double from Edrington put runners on second and third. Dickey came through again with a single to drive home Jones from third. Edrington was given the green light rounding third to turn home, but was thrown out at the plate on a controversial call.

In the bottom half of the frame the Generals tallied five runs to pull away from the Pump Jacks. The damage could have been worse if it was not for two great defensive plays by the Pump Jacks to end the inning. Edrington recorded the second out of the inning, showing his vertical as he jumped for a line drive that would have been unplayable by most short stops. Brooks Marlow then dove and stopped a ball that looks like it should have gone straight through the gap for the final out of the frame. However the inning still ended with the Generals up 9-3.

East Texas continued to chip away at the lead, adding one run in each the seventh and eighth innings. After a lead off triple from Joey Armstrong in the seventh, Huesers drove home his second RBI of the night on an infield single.

Then, in the eighth three singles from Jones, Edrington, and Brooks Marlow loaded the bases in time for a sacrifice fly from Armstrong to score the Pump Jacks final run of the game. The rally fell short as East Texas went quietly in the ninth to hand the Generals the 9-5 win.

The Jacks return home for a four-game homestand beginning Thursday night against the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The series opens with the second Thirsty Thursday of the season, when fans can beat the heat with 50-cent soft drinks and one-dollar draft beers all night long.

The Pump Jacks wrap up their series with the Cane Cutters one night later with Fireworks Friday presented by SWEPCO and CBS 19. The Pump Jacks will light up the night sky with a spectacular postgame fireworks show, set to a brand new soundtrack.

The fun and promotions continue over the weekend when the Jacks welcome the Woodlands Strykers. Fans can pick up their very own FREE shirt on Saturday at All-Star T-Shirt Giveaway Night presented by GymBox Fitness. The first 500 fans will receive a free T-shirt bearing the logo of the 2013 TCL All-Star Game, which East Texas will host next month.

The four-night stint wraps up on Sunday with Sunday Fun Day, presented by theGOspot.com. Kids can enjoy face painting and the return of the Water Gun Battle, a favorite on-field contest.

Sunday is also a doubleheader, meaning fans can enjoy twice the baseball for one low price! The first game will begin at 6:05 p.m., with the second kicking off twenty minutes after the first one ends.
