East Texas PumpJacks News Release

Pump Jacks score five, but it was not enough to overcome the Victoria Generals as they drop the final game of a four-game homestand.

The first Fireworks Friday of the season kicked off with a bang as hundreds fans waited around after the game on Friday night to enjoy the show featuring a brand new soundtrack of great moments in baseball history.

The first half of the evening did not go as planned for the Pump Jacks as they were unable to get ahead of the Victoria Generals, dropping the final game of the homestand 12-5. Generals starting pitcher Toller Boardman was able to do something many pitchers have failed at this season, silencing the hot bats of the East Texas offense.

The Pump Jacks were not without runs however, thanks to a late inning rally. After giving up six early runs, the Jacks added their first run of the game thanks to Kilgore native Matthew Dickey's ability to create havoc on the base paths. Dickey kicked off the innings with an infield single. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch after when Boardman rushed his delivery to the plate. He was then moved to third over by a Ty Marlow grounder and scored on another wild pitch by Boardman, putting East Texas on the board.

In the next frame Victoria retaliated adding six runs to pull away from the Jacks.

The Pump Jacks were not out of the game yet. In the bottom of the eighth, East Texas showed a glimmer of the hot hitting offense that carried them through the first three games of the homestand with a two out rally scoring four runs. Dickey once again showed his speed for his second infield single of the night. Then, four straight hits from the Pump Jacks drove home four runs. Ty Marlow hit a double to deep right to score Dickey from first. Ty would then cross home on a RBI single from brother Brooks, his eighth RBI of the season. J.J . Robinson followed up with a beautiful double straight down the third base line to put the Pump Jacks down 12-4. Joey Armstrong added to the damage by driving home the final run of the inning on a triple, giving him his seventh RBI on the homestand.

Armstrong's bat was not the only aspect of his game that was stellar in the homestand's finale. Armstrong showed his versatility moving from third base to right field, marking his first outfield start of the season for the Jacks. In the fourth inning he proved why he is one of the top freshman prospects with two diving catches to rob the Generals and halt then from scoring any more runs. Armstrong recorded the second out of the innings with a running diving catch on a fly ball over his head just ten feet shy of the steel outfield wall. He then followed one terrific catch with a second. This time he broke on a shallow fly ball in front of him and made a leaping superman catch, which brought the Pump Jacks out of their dugout and the fans at Driller Park onto their feet.

The Pump Jacks head on the road to Acadiana to face the Cane Cutters for the third time this early season. East Texas will look to repeat the sweep they recorded earlier in the week when the series kicks off Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
