Pulaski River Turtles News Release

The Yankees pulled off a thriller in the late innings to prevail over the Mets 5-4 at Calfee Park Saturday night. Pulaski reliever Miles Chambers picks up the win pitching for one and two thirds innings allowing one hit while striking out three. Kingsport reliever Trent Johnson was tagged with the loss pitching for two thirds of an inning allowing one run on one hit while walking one. Both teams face off in the series finale Sunday night starting at 5 p.m. with gates opening at 3:30 p.m.

Kingsport took the lead in the first and maintained control for most of the game adding a run in each of the first three innings. Anthony Dimino reached on a Pulaski throwing error, moved to second on a ground out, and was plated with a single up the middle by Dionis Rodriguez. In the second, Oliver Pascual singled and scored after back-to-back singles to make it 2-0. Walter Rasquin led off the third with an infield single before stealing second and scoring on a single from Jose Medina.

Pulaski chipped away at the lead in the fourth with Manny Argomaniz hopping aboard with a single to left before moving all the way around on a passed ball and wild pitch. He scored on a ground out giving Welfrin Mateo the RBI to make it 3-1. The Mets added to its lead with Dimino hitting a solo homer in the eighth but the Yankees came charging back in the home half. With one out Mateo singled and was left on first with two outs after a fly out. Wilkerman Garcia and Estevan Florial both singled to bring in Mateo to make it 4-2. A single from Dermis Garcia scored Florial before a pair of passed balls moved him to third and scored Wilkerman to tie the game at four runs each. A strikeout ended the Yankees' rally as the teams went to the ninth.

It was three-up, three-down for Kingsport while it was a different story for Pulaski. Argomaniz led off the home half and got his second hit of the game singling to left and one out later, Mateo drew a walk. Blake Rutherford then hit into a fielder's choice to put Yankees on the corners with two outs. Wilkerman Garcia then hit the ball to shortstop Oliver Pascual who made a wild throw to first to score Argomaniz and end the game.
