Pulaski Mariners News Release
Pulaski, VA- Kaalekahi pieced together seven innings of grade A work for his start vs. Johnson City Monday night at Calfee Park. He managed to give up no runs on a mere three hits, struck-out four, and walked only one Cardinal batter.
The M's were the first on the board during the bottom of the third when third baseman Jordy Lara knocked in Gilmer Lampe, executing a picture perfect hit and run. Pulaski scored again in the bottom of the sixth when Jabari Henry hit a deep fly to right allowing Lara to tag up from third.
Johnson City threatened to score in the top of the 8th when Mariners relief pitching put two batters on base with walks. Mariners coaching staff pulled LHP Nick Valenza after getting the first out and put in RHP David Holman. To the delight of the hometown fans, the threat was relieved thanks to another strike out and a routine ground ball to third.
Mariners gave Holman quite a bit of breathing room after they put up three more runs in bottom of the eighth courtesy of a pair of doubles from Henry and Burin. Holman held on to the significant lead, shutting down the Cardinal batters in the top of the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
WP: Kaalekahi (1-0) LP: Bautista (1-1) S: Holman (1)
Pulaski will host the second game of their three game home-stand vs. Johnson City tomorrow (6/26) at 7p.m. Aaron's Rental of Pulaski will be sponsoring tomorrow night's game.
