Greeneville Astros News Release

Kingsport, TN - The Greeneville Astros headed into Kingsport on Sunday with the hope of sweeping the Mets. However, Kingsport had different plans and took the final game of the series, 8-3.

The Mets got on board first with an Elvis Peguero base hit single in the third inning, but the Astros tied the game back at 1-1 in the top of the fourth with a Michael Martinez RBI single, scoring Ariel Ovando.

In the bottom of the inning, however, the Mets took the lead for good. Kingsport scored two runs in the inning on a Jeyckol De Leon double and a Maikis De La Cruz single.

In the fifth inning, Kingsport added four more runs on four base hits and a triple from De La Cruz. That put the score at 7-1 in favor of the Mets.

Then, Kingsport's Bradley Marquez hit a double with a runner at second who came around to put the Mets up 8-1 after six.

The Astros managed two more runs in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Cristian Moronta and a throwing error from Kingsport, but it would not be enough as the Mets picked up their first win of the season.

Robert Gsellman (1-0) earned the win for the Mets, giving up one unearned run on five hits over six innings. Cristian Chivilli pitched the final three innings, gave up one earned run, one unearned run, and picked up the save.

The Astros will face the Princeton Rays in their home opener on Monday, June 25 at 7:00pm. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
