Professional Softball is Coming to Thillens Stadium
July 23, 2009 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Chicago Bandits News Release
Elgin, Ill.-The Chicago Bandits will play at historic Thillens Stadium on the north side of Chicago Tuesday, July 28 at 7:05 pm. This special game will mark the first time the Bandits have played in the city of Chicago. For this commemorative event, the Bandits had to find an opponent worthy enough to showcase the sport of softball in front of a fairly new fan base. The answer came in the form of a United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) 18 and over all-star squad.
The USSSA all-star team will be comprised of the USSSA National World Series Tournament most valuable players. The tournament director will determine who the most valuable players of the tournament are and will then present them with the opportunity to play against the 2008 World Champion Chicago Bandits. The all-star team's coaching staff will be determined by who will receive the Coach of the Year award which is also based upon judging by the director.
President and CEO of the Bandits Bill Sokolis said, "This will be an excellent way to promote the USSSA and showcase the talented athletes that play in this great organization. This will be a once in a lifetime experience for the players chosen to participate. It is not every day you wake up and have the chance to play against the best players in the world. The event is a must see, we are playing at the newly renovated Thillens Stadium, in Chicago, IL. It is centrally located so fans that have not had the opportunity to make it out to Elgin to view the Bandits can do so now. What a great way to spend a Tuesday night at the park."
For more than 65 years, Thillens Stadium has hosted Little League games for Chicago youth, including the Chicago Park District's Inner City Little League. Thillens is located at 6404 N. Kedzie (Devon & Kedzie).
Tickets can be purchased by calling the office at 877-7BANDIT, by logging onto chicagobandits.com and clicking on the ticket tab or at the gate the day of the game. General admission tickets are being sold for $10.
The game is being presented by Frozen Ropes; you can visit their website at www.frozenropes.com.
