Professional basketball team to play in Aurora
August 11, 2005 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Aurora Cavalry News Release
The International Basketball League, a second year professional basketball league, officially announces that Aurora Colorado will be the IBL's second expansion city. Aurora would be one of six expansion teams slated to begin play in early March of 2006. The first expansion city was announced in mid July-Holland Michigan.
IBL Operations Director Tony Alvarez will be visiting Aurora to hold an ownership announcement. This announcement will be held at the Aurora Hoops Park on Friday August 12th at 1:00pm. The IBL welcomes the media and any interested parties to this announcement.
INAUGURAL 2005 IBL SEASON WRAP-UP
The IBL's inaugural 2005 season has made it to a successful close. The IBL started the season with seventeen teams, all of which finished the season.
The IBL claimed that two unique features would separate the IBL from other minor professional basketball leagues
1) An entertaining game. By allowing only one timeout and by speeding up the time between plays with an immediate inbounds, IBL games were fast and entertaining. The 2005 IBL team scoring average was 126.9 points per game. Games lasted no more than two hours.
2) Extremely low travel costs. The IBL promises a maximum of only one trip requiring air travel per team. This is due to the IBL's unique method of recruiting teams in geographic clusters. Clusters are groups of two to three teams within driving distance of each other. By recruiting only in clusters, the IBL has devised a scheduling process whereby teams can play various opponents all over the country, but only have to fly once. Restated: Recruiting teams in clusters leads to extremely low travel costs.
