Williamsport Outlaws News Release

WATERTOWN, NY -- For the Williamsport Outlaws, the start of the season could not have been projected any worse. With the 7-3 loss handed to them Saturday night by the 1000 Island Privateers, the Outlaws fall to 0-3-1 on the season.

Defense was the name of the game for the main part of the opening period between the Outlaws and the Privateers. Both teams traded shots, with goaltenders Chris Whitley, Williamsport, and Matt Anthony, 1000 Islands, making great save s and controlling rebounds well.

The Privateers were able to find the scoreboard in the first period when hometown product Chris Green (Massena, NY) was able to beat Whitley at the 14:36 mark, Green's first goal of the season.

The Outlaws had their chances near the end of the period with two power plays, including a brief 5-on-3 chance, but were unable to take advantage of the Privateers miscues, even though the Outlaws led the Privateers in shot (13 to 7) in the period.

1000 Islands took the momentum quickly in the second period scoring their first of four goals in the period when Jordan Bernier beat Whitley at the 3:14 mark of the period. Soon after, Adam McAllister scored his second goal of the season at the 5:55 mark.

Coach Firriolo made a goaltender change after the McAllister goal, sending in Mike DiLorenzo, who played well in last night's overtime loss to the Danbury Whalers.

The Goalie change sparked the Outlaws for a short period that saw the Outlaws find the twine when Rob Sich scored his second goal of the season from Trevor Karasiewcz at the 10:52 mark of the period.

That surge of momentum was shortly lived. Nikolas Temple buried a puck through DiLorenzo's five-hole to make it 4-1 at the 13:43 mark. Brent Tamane joined the goal scoring party with a rocket of a one timer over the right shoulder of DiLorenzo to make it 5-1 at the 14:44 mark.

After Tamane's goal, Tyler Matheson of the Outlaws dropped the gloves with Chase Tippin of 1000 Islands, both served five minute fighting majors. Tippin, immediately went to the locker room after the fight, with more than five minutes remaining in the period, though it looked like he was uninjured.

The third period saw both teams trade a pair of goals, with the Privateers getting their first. Chris Greene added his second goal of the night and of the season at the 3:59 mark. Shortly after Brent Tamane found the back of the net for the his second goal of the game and his second goal of the season.

For the Outlaws, captain Trevor Karasiewicz had an opportunity to get the Outlaws on the board with a penalty shot, after a Privateer cover the puck in the crease with his glove intentionally. Matt Anthony would stone wall Karasiewicz attempt.

Rob Sich would beat Anthiny for the second time in the game at the 6:49 mark, to make it 7-2. The goal was Sich's third on the year. Moments later, Matt Smyth would beat Anthony on a breakaway for his second goal on the year at the 10:22 mark.

After the Smyth goal, both teams traded scoring chances but didn't find the scoreboard.

The Outlaws will take the ice November 1st against the 1000 Island Privateers at Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05pm
