September 18, 2014 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Island Storm News Release

(Charlottetown, PE) 6'9" Power Forward Doug McKinney is back for his fourth year as a member of the Island STORM of the NBL Canada. The Charlottetown native signed this week and becomes the longest serving STORM player to date.

McKinney starred at Charlottetown Rural High School before moving on to the University of Prince Edward Island where he earned a berth on the AUS 1st All-Star Team during the 2006-07 season. He was also invited to participate with Canada's National Junior Team Program.

McKinney joined the STORM in the teams inaugural season in 2011-12 and has been a member and fan favorite ever since. He was named to the NBL's All-Canadian 2nd Team in 2012-13. McKinney's best game in the league came during last years' NBL Finals against the Windsor Express where he scored 18 points. His next best game came March 16th, 2013 against the Halifax Rainmen when he scored 16 points. He is a career 47% shooter from the floor and a 38.5% career shooter from beyond the arc.

McKinney also played a year of professional basketball in Lebanon.

"It's great to have Dougie back for a 4th season with us," says STORM Head Coach Joe Salerno. "He has really grown into locker room leader on this team, someone the younger guys look too often. Doug brings his hard hat to practice every day and is consistently helping this franchise in one way or another. He has been with us since day one; he is part of the Storm family."

Salerno went on to say, "With every season that passes, Doug has become more and more adjusted to the level of play and style of game this league requires. He has made huge strides over the past three seasons and I look forward to seeing what he is able to bring to the table this season as a true veteran of our league and this franchise."

Meanwhile, McKinney says he is looking forward to the coming season, " First off I want to say how excited I am to be apart of this organization for a fourth consecutive year. I look forward to being a part of leading the team, both on and off the floor. Being able to have an impact in the community with the Storm is something I look forward to as well. We have some great guys coming back from a couple of years ago along with others from last season. With the addition of some new pieces, I look forward to seeing the final product, being a part of winning a third consecutive conference championship, and winning a first ever championship."
