American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
The Pride have won eight of ten games since ending their stunning 21-game losing streak on Sunday, July 28th. In fact, with a 2nd half record of 8-18, the Pride stand just 5.5 games behind first place Long Island in the battle for the North Division 2nd half crown and a playoff spot. Bridgeport is just 1.5 games ahead of Nashua for second place in the Division.
The Pride took two of three from the Ducks at The Pridelands this week to move up in the standings. TRAVIS BAPTIST, SAM ALI, ANGEL MIRANDA and MARC DESCHENES combined for a sparking 2-0 shutout on Thursday evening to take the rubber game of the series.

PRIDE MOVES
The Pride made several roster moves in the past two weeks. In a flurry of activity of August 1st, starting pitcher JULIAN HEREDIA was traded to the Long Island Ducks for IF EDGAR TOVAR and the rights to OF DARRELL WHITTEMORE. Tovar is hitting an astounding .542 with 13 hits in his first six games with the Pride.
On the same day, the Pride traded the rights to SS ORLANDO MILLER to the Somerset Patriots for OF T.J. STATON and future considerations. The trade essentially reversed the June 2002 trade that sent Staton to Somerset for Miller's rights. STATON has seen regular time in left field and at DH since his return.
The Pride also signed free agent pitcher MARC DESCHENES, a former UMass-Lowell star and Cleveland Indians prospect. Deschenes recorded two saves during this week's series against Long Island.
The team also added sidewinder EDDIE REYES who has seen action in two games out of the bullpen.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
The Bridgeport Bluefish have signed long-time Pride shortstop TONY RODRIGUEZ after acquiring his rights in a trade that sent the right to OF BILLY RICH to Nashua last week. He debuted for the 'Fish this week and is 1-for-3 with a RBI in two games thus far.
The Camden Riversharks have signed former Boston Red Sox (1999) catcher/DH CREIGHTON GUBANICH as they make their playoff push. Gubanich (.333, 6 HRs, 19 RBIs in 14 games) has already helped Camden's anemic offense, which incredibly ranks last in the league (.245 team average) despite the team's league-high 52 wins (against 37 losses).
The Ducks lost top slugger PAT LENNON in late July when the Tampa Bay Devil Rays purchased his contract and assigned him to Triple-A Durham (NC). The 34-year old was batting .311 and leading the Atlantic League in homers (19) and RBIs (61) at the time. The Ducks also lost reliever STEVE FALTEISEK to the L.A. Dodgers. He reported to Double-A Jacksonville of the Southern League.
Newark Bears (and former Pride) outfielder JIMMY HURST is the lead story on the Independent Leagues page of the September 1st Baseball America. With Lennon's departure from Long Island, Hurst is in prime contention for the Atlantic League Triple Crown this season. As of 8/9 he ranks 1st in the league in batting (.323), first in home runs (23) and tied for first in RBIs (68). Despite his numbers, Baseball America reports that Hurst has received just one offer (from Mexico) to leave Newark, which he turned down to focus on a shot at landing a triple-A deal with a Major League organization.
DONNELLY MAKING A GO OF IT IN ANAHEIM
Former Pride reliever (1999) BRENDAN DONNELLY seems to be sticking with Anaheim. After making his Major League debut in April with the Angels, Donnelly returned briefly to Triple-A Salt Lake. He has since returned to the big club and is pitching well out of the bullpen. In 20 appearances, he is 0-1 with a 2.35 ERA with just 14 hits allowed in 23 innings. He has struck out 25 against just 7 walks.
LINIAK STAYS STEADY IN FLORIDA STATE LEAGUE
2002 Pride All-Star shortstop COLE LINIAK is continuing his steady play with the Charlotte (FL) Rangers of the Florida State League. He is starting at third base for the Texas Rangers affiliate and batting .277 with 6 RBIs in 14 games through August 9th.
