New Jersey Pride News Release
STONY BROOK, N.Y. - After trading out of the first round of the 2006 MLL Collegiate Draft, the New Jersey Pride selected Chris Collinates, a face-off specialist from Villanova with their first selection at No. 25 overall. The Pride had only two selections in this draft and went with Nazareth attackman Ryan Hotaling in the fourth round at No. 35 overall.
Colliniates won 193 of 311 face offs in 2007, giving him a 62% success rate. He will be asked to step in immediately and contribute. Hotaling, a versatile attackman out of Division III powerhouse Nazareth, scored 37 goals and dished out just that many assists this season for the Golden Flyers.
"We are happy with what happened today,'' said Pride General Manager Trey Reeder. "We got another first round pick next season, and we got a face-off specialist and someone who can also help us on the offensive side of the ball.''
To start the New Jersey Pride's 2007 Major League Lacrosse draft, the team traded a pick they had acquired only after trading it away early in camp. If that wasn't confusing enough, in return for that pick, it received another pick it had once traded away. Talk about indecision.
The team traded the No. 5 pick overall to the Chicago Machine (a pick it had traded to Philadelphia for Greg Peyser, only to re-acquire it a day later for Andy Corno) for the 25th overall pick (one it had traded as a part of the Kevin Boland deal last year. The seller for New Jersey was that the package also included Philadelphia's first round draft pick in 2008, one loaded with talent.
