Boston Cannons News Release

May 31, 2007 (Stony Brook, NY) - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse tonight selected six players in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft. The Cannons picked Virginia goalie Kip Turner with their first selection, the second overall. Boston acquired the second overall pick in a trade with the Washington Bayhawks this spring.

"We're thrilled to have Kip part of our team," said Bill Daye, Cannons head coach. "He is an outstanding goalie, he's a leader and someone we expect to have involved with our organization for a long time to come."

With its second pick (eighth overall) the Cannons chose David Mitchell an attackman from Cornell. Mitchell is a left handed finisher originally from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

"David will provide an excellent compliment on our attack," said Daye. "He's a great finisher and a lefty. Those type of players are a big commodity in the MLL."

In addition to selecting six players Boston also made a significant trade. The Cannons sent midfielder Chris Fiore to the Long Island Lizards for the ninth overall selection in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft and Long Island's third round selection in the 2009 MLL Collegiate draft.

With the ninth pick Boston acquired Maryland defenseman Ray Megill.

After three first round picks the Cannons did not select again until the 21st overall pick - the first selection of the third round. With that pick the Cannons chose standout Virginia midfielder Drew Thompson.

In the fourth round the Cannons picked UMASS midfielder Brett Garber. Brett's father Ted is a Cannons assistant coach.

With its final pick Boston chose another UMASS player, defenseman Dan Whipple.

"We expect some guys to see action this weekend," said Daye. "We'll make those decisions after practice on Friday night."

The Cannons host the Los Angeles Riptide Saturday June 2 at 7PM at Harvard Stadium.
