The Woodlands, TX - Due to the weather yesterday, the Dawgs and the Pride played games three and four Monday night.
In the first game, the Pride took the early lead with a single to left field by Megan Wiggins off of the Dawgs starting pitcher, Sara Driesenga. Wiggins then proceeded to steal off of catcher Lee Ann Spivey, who overthrew second base and allowed Wiggins to slide safely into third. After a strike out from Kretschman, Shelby Pendley hit a double to left field to score Wiggins from third (1-0). The hitting rally continued with a walk to GiOnna DiSalvatore and a two out single from rookie, Kirsti Merritt to bring in Pendley and DiSalvatore to put to more runs on the board for the Pride (3-0).
The Dawgs struggled at the plate with Pride pitcher Jolene Henderson in the first inning, with a strike out from Emily Crane, a ground out to the pitcher from Kiki Stokes, and fly out from Emilee Koerner.
In the top of the second inning, the Pride's third basemen Courtney Ceo led off with a bunt to Driesenga, who made the throw to the Dawgs second basemen Nerissa Myers, but Myers could not make the catch and allowed Ceo to advance to second base. Wiggins then hit a single to center to move Ceo to third. Pendley followed with a line drive off the glove of Myers to score Ceo from third (4-0).
The Dawgs first hit of the game was off of the bat of Myers. With Myers on second base, rookie Christian Stokes reached base on a swinging bunt to Henderson, who could not make the play and moved Myers to third. Stokes then stole second base and a throwing error by the Pride's catcher allowed Myers to put the Dawgs on board (4-1).
The Pride put another run on the board in the top of the third inning with a walk to Chamberlain and a bunt from Merritt to score pinch runner Sierra Romero from first (5-1).
The hits continued in the top of the fourth for the Pride as they put one more run on the board (6-1). Rachel Fox entered the circle for the Dawgs to get the third out of the inning. After another run was put on the board for the Pride in the fifth to make it (7-1), Ivy Renfroe entered the circle for the Dawgs in the top of the seventh inning to retire three in a row for the Pride.
The Dawgs struggled against Henderson and in the bottom of the seventh, Jordan Taylor took the circle for the Pride to finish the game. The Dawgs fell short to the Pride in game three.
Following game three, both teams took the field for the last game of the series. The Dawgs starting pitcher, Monica Abbott, started the game off with a looking strike out by Megan Wiggins. Kelly Kretschman hit a single up the middle to reach base, but got caught in a run down and tagged out by Abbott at second base. Abbott got the third out with a strike out from Shelby Pendley to end the inning.
The Dawgs took the lead in the bottom of the first with two back to back walks from Pride pitcher Kelsey Nunley to Emilee Koerner and Taylore Fuller.
