Dawgs Shut Down Bandits in Game One

The Woodlands, TX (June 21, 2016) - The Dawgs faced the Chicago Bandits for game one of the series.

The Dawgs had no trouble scoring first, with a single from Emily Crane to lead the game off. Britt Vonk followed with a slap to Lacey Waldrop, who threw the ball in the dirt to first base and allowed Crane to score and Vonk to advance to third (0-1). Emilee Koerner dropped a bunt and scored Vonk from third base (0-2).

The Dawgs continued in the fourth inning, with a hit by pitch to Taylore Fuller, a single from Renee Erwin, and another single from Amanda Fama to load the bases. Kiki Stokes had a quality at bat and walked to bring in a run (0-3). Waldrop retired two batters, but the Dawgs left fielder Koerner hit a two-out double to put three more runs on the board (0-6).

Monica Abbott had three strikeouts and just two walks through five innings. Rachel Fox entered the circle for the Dawgs and allowed one run, but Abbott reentered and finished the game. With bases loaded, Brenna Moss hit a ground ball to Vonk, who had a throwing error to Fuller, and the Bandits scored two runs (3-6).

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Breja'e Washington beat the throw to first, stole second, and advanced to third on the overthrow. Kiki Stokes followed with a sac fly to center to bring in Washington (3-7).

The Dawgs shut down the Bandits and Abbott finished with six strikeouts. The Dawgs face the Bandits tomorrow for game two of the series at 7:30pm.
