Preview: Toros Energized to Face OKC on the Road

Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release


EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (8-7-5; 29 pts.) heads to OKC to face the Energy FC (5-7-8; 23 pts.) on Sunday, August 29 at 5 p.m. CST.

Last time both teams met was in 2020 at H-E-B Park on Oct. 3 with a 4-2 RGV FC win. Prior to that, both squads ended in a 0-0 draw at Taft Stadium. The overall record on the road stands at 2-1-3.

RGV FC: The Toros suffered a 1-3 loss at El Paso last Saturday night. The Locomotive capped off the home win with three second half goals. Elvis Amoh returned after a long injury and scored the lone goal after a beautiful long pass from James Murphy who allowed Amoh to strike to the back of the net. Amoh is now tied with Juan Carlos Azocar with six goals each. Both Murphy and Rodrigo Lopez continue to be key in the midfield by contributing five assists each. Lopez has created 38 chances in 20 appearances. Colin Miller has continued to defend the goal totaling 11 saves in five appearances made.

OKC: The Energy FC is led by Villyan Bijev with nine goals and three assists, making 21 key passes. Defensively, Mitchell Osmond leads the squad with 82 clearances, 46 interceptions, 15 blocks and 34 tackles. In addition, he has won 40 of the aerial duels faced. At the goal, C.J. Cochran has conceded 20 goals, making 49 saves while having kept six clean sheets.
